September 17, 2010 by kim.
One of the first days that we moved into our apartment, we of course hit an apartment sale. Seriously, Kim? Did we really need another piece of furniture? Of course we did. I saw a sale sign taped to a lamp post with the first item on it listed as ‘1906 Victrola’ and went a little nuts. That was the only thing I saw among the twenty items listed. Since the sale was right around the corner from our new place, we went.
It was love at first sight.
Sure, it wasn’t in pristine condition, but it WORKED! We had purchased a 1929 victrola cabinet off the street about six years ago – right in this very neighborhood – and it was missing the record player and speakers. Now, we had one that could actually play music!

Victrola (bowl on top is not part of it)
According to my research, this type of Victrola was first created in 1906 by the Victor Talking Machine Company, but the one we have here is from 1923 (serial # VV-105).
Welcome home!
